How does Loop Hero do good vampires
Today on Cog consider, let's talk about vampires. In general, there are two types of vampires encountered in the video games: the crazy enemy of blood that you can kill without hesitation, and the friendly and troubled teammate or PNJ that tries to not be a monster (with variable results ) Some games offer both types, but Loop Hero combines them into a single archetype of vampire, and I think it's quite great. Add to that a truly creative world construction and a ludonarrative narration and you have some of my favorite vampires in the game, end point.
When you meet a vampire for the first time in Loop Hero, the hero greets him happily, because in the world he knows, humans and vampires have formed a symbiotic link. Humans are gladly looking for vampires and exchange their blood against protection. Unfortunately, all of this happened before the world is broken and plunged into a timeless vacuum, so that formerly a Benign protector of humanity has long become crazy about hunger. The kinematics ends with the inability to bring down the hungry vampire and both are obliged to fight. The whole conversation lasts only about a minute of dialogue and superb pixel art, but she stayed in the bottom of my head throughout my part and made the fight against vampires a sad and stressful experience. They are just one of many types of random enemies that can be placed in dungeons and kill you if they have the opportunity, and yet they are also people. Tragic, terrifying, and clearly thinking, feeling, people ... but also be made completely, terribly crazy by famine. This little Roguelite made me feel more the fate of the vampires than the whole world of darkness, and they are not even playable characters!
As if it were not enough, Loop Hero also went further and integrated the nature of his vampires into the gameplay. If you place a map Vampire Mansion just in front of a healing village card, the village will be immediately transformed into a ransacked village populated by deadly enemies of Goules and vampires. However, if you can endure three loops around the circular dungeon, the ransome village will become instead of a map map of the count, because the thirst for the vampire has been sealed and its restored mental health. The Count's Lands heals a lot more health than a typical village and is one of the safest maps of all the game, offering a valuable respite against dungeon dangers. The first time I attended the transformation, I wanted to cry. Narrative art narration transmits the themes of a game through its mechanisms as well as its writing, and Loop Hero did a fantastic job by integrating the tragedy and redemption of its vampires at the gameplay.
I hope more developers will inspire the way Loop Hero manages his vampires. The idea that vampires and humans establish a symbiotic relationship is fun.
